Agape Light Tattoo Removal By Jan Kaatz
Dr. Steven Popkow, a Dermatologist from from Los Angeles, pioneered this practical approach to evangelism with a desire to help people improve their lives. His dream is that it will be replicated in other cities across the nation. The program happens on select Friday evenings throughout the year. The free removal of tattoos applies to tattoos that are on the hands, face or neck. Several treatments are needed for their permanent removal. Tattoos located on other parts of the body are removed for a minimal fee (the going rate is $150 a square inch). The program has recently moved from Burbank to the Culver City Church for the foreseeable future. Pastor Jan Kaatz, who pastors both churches, is excited about the prospects of reaching a segment of our population who would probably not respond to the more traditional forms of proclamation evangelism. Kaatz said, "those who are accepted into the program agree to attend the Friday evening worship service that's held on clinic nights. Also, I'm able to sit down with the participants as they wait for their treatments. During this time I'm able to find out what's happening in their lives and have prayer with them, if they are open. Most of the people are very authentic and open to whatever we can offer them." An Enthusiastic Response Over the last 2 years, 253 people have expressed an interest in having their tattoos removed—40 of which are out of state. One woman is so excited about it she is commuting all the way from Las Vegas to have his tattoos removed. Another man who lives in Minnesota said, even though he has to buy a plane ticket, it is still cheaper to come to Los Angeles to have his tattoos removed. Clearly God is using this cutting edge, creative form of ministry to touch people's lives.
