His Voice Men's Chorus By Mario Rocha
God has blessed this ministry with many opportunities to touch other people's lives. Every second Sabbath, or sometimes on Sundays, His Voice can be found singing in churches, public venues, prison and retirement homes. The time the singers devote to learning the lyrics, melodies and harmonies is greatly blessed by the power of the Holy Spirit. His Voice makes its home in Sun City, California, at the Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Valley Church has been a gracious host and provides spiritual encouragement to the group. Another reason this church was selected is its geographical proximity to where the singers and musicians live--which spans from Corona in the west, to Banning in the East, Highland in the north and Escondido to the south. One of the earliest performances the group gave was in Oregon at a large men’s chorus festival in which His Voice was featured along with five other groups. You can imagine the thrill they experienced when two hundred and fifty men joined their voices together to sing praises to the Lord. Other venues have included churches around the Inland Empire—usually within a two hour radius of the San Bernardino / Riverside area. Sacramento and Hawaii are in their sights for future performances. Recently, His Voice sang for the Norco Adventist congregation. After singing for the morning service, they quickly departed for a prison engagement, but not before they were given delicious sack lunches that were prepared by the kind women of the church. After an arduous screening upon entering the prison, the group finally made their way into the Chapel, where the inmates were accustomed to coming for special events. They were very excited to have His Voice "in the house." During the concert, many of the Christian inmates sang along while Joyce Leal played beautifully on a severely un-tuned piano. The fervent spirit of the inmates was most apparent when everyone rose to their feet to sing Andre Crouch's song “Soon and Very Soon." After the concert the group members met with many of the inmates for visitation and prayer. There was definitely a "Sweet, Sweet Spirit" in that place.
Senior Moments A very humbling engagement that His Voice is privileged to keep is at retirement homes. Some of the residents rarely have visitors so it is always an honor to sing for them. In this environment the Holy Spirit has worked many miracles. One such miracle was a woman from a home in the city of Fallbrook. She had been silent during her stay there. After hearing His Voice one Sabbath afternoon, she remarked to one of the astonished nurses, “that was beautiful.” The nurse revealed to the men’s chorus that this particular resident had never spoken since arriving. Members of the chorus always like to linger afterward to visit with the people who attend their programs. Some ask for prayer, some like to tell stories and some just enjoy the company. One group member said, "To see the smiles on their faces and to know that people have been blessed is all the reward we need." Their CD, Written In Red, can be obtained at: His Voice, 12056 Mt. Vernon Ave PMB351 Grand Terrace 92313. ______________________________ Mario Rocha is a member of His Voice and lives in southern California. All rights reserved © 2007 Church Support Services.
